Q. How long have you built in Crested Butte Colorado?

Holgate Construction has been building  in Crested Butte since 1993, when we moved from California.

Q. Do you build outside of Crested Butte Colorado?

We’ve built within the limits of Gunnison County since 1993 (licensed since 1989).  We’ve also gone out of state for special clients.

Q. How long have you been a general contractor?

Holgate Construction received their General Contractor Licence in California in 1989, after an 18 month classroom course in Southern California.

Q. Are you licensed and insured?

Gunnison County does not require all contractors to be licensed, with the exception of Mechanical and Electrical trades. Holgate Construction is fully Insured with General Liability and Workman’s Comp. We are also Bonded.

Q. Can I use my own architect?

Holgate Construction will work with any Architect, Draftsperson or Home Owner that wants to draw his own home.  There are many aspect of building in a mountain community, Crested Butte in specific, that benefit from the input and requests of all parties involved.  Having the Builder involved from the very beginning, irregardless of who is drawing the plans, is a huge benefit.  We are happy to work with anybody chosen.

Q. How many homes have you built?
This is just in Colorado alone:

  • (14) – As General Contractor
  • ( 1 ) – As On-Site Framing and Superintendent throughout entire Project
  • ( 5 ) –  As Framing Contractor

Q. Who will be assigned project supervisor for my  job?

All homes are overseen and supervised by Mick Holgate personally. We do not subcontract out our project management.

Q. Who will be working on the project? Will it be subcontractors or employees?

Holgate Construction has a crew on all homes from excavation thru move-in. The primary trades that are sub-contracted are  the electrical, mechanical, drywall and painting contracts.

Q. What is your approach to building a custom home?

All homes are treated as “custom” homes.  The amount of time and cost is all contingent on the Owner’s desires.  Once the Blueprints have been established, we then start working on Budget numbers.  Subcontract bids and material estimates begin to be compiled.   Once the project has “broke-ground”, a projected construction schedule is established.

Q. How long does it take for you to build a custom home?

Home construction can take from nine months to two years, depending on size, details and weather conditions.

Q. Will you be on site or do you subcontract everything out?

Holgate Construction has been building in Gunnison County since 1989.  Through the years we have gotten to know the dependable sub-contractors, the building officials and local weather conditions that can drastically effect the building schedule.

Q. Do you have referrals I can contact?

Professional and personal references are available upon request. Past clients are happy to give a walk-thru of their homes at any time and referrals are available.
